FUNERALZZI - feature documentary in production (2025)
Natasha and Sergei are a Ukrainian family of undertakers living in Italy. Each week, they prepare and transport the bodies of migrants back to Ukraine. Since the full-scale invasion, their work has taken on a new urgency, folding personal loss, displacement, and responsibility into their daily lives.
The film follows Natasha as she navigates care, grief, and rupture, balancing her role within the family business with her own desire for continuity and a future beyond survival. What begins as a story about work gradually becomes a portrait of transformation, as war reshapes notions of home, belonging, and motherhood.
Funeralzzi is an intimate observational film that stays close to moments of waiting, labour, and quiet decision-making, allowing larger political realities to emerge through lived experience rather than explanation.
