Soundscapes in the Garden documents a series of live sound installations at the Neue Nationalgalerie, exploring how music, architecture, and audience presence interact in an open, public space.
Developed in collaboration with d&b audiotechnik, the project follows performances that transform the museum’s garden into a spatial listening environment. Sound is treated not as a frontal experience, but as a physical field that visitors move through, shaping perception collectively and individually.
The film observes the event from within the crowd, privileging atmosphere over coverage. Rather than documenting performances in full, the camera focuses on gestures, light, proximity, and moments of immersion, allowing the experience of sound in space to remain sensorial rather than explanatory.
Soundscapes in the Garden continues the legacy of Jazz in the Garden at the Neue Nationalgalerie, echoing earlier moments when artists such as Keith Jarrett and Alice Coltrane redefined how music could inhabit architectural space.
